Series lore and name

The monolog is a flying tree stump monster. Monologs are great green tree trunks with a pair of batty wings, covered in weirdly webbed skin, that they use to fly frighteningly through the battlefield, forever staring with their freaky blinking and stern single eye. Their wicked tentacle-like roots flop and flail slightly in the air, waiting until the unspeakably frightening creature slams itself into the ground and takes root, just long enough for the roots themselves to dig through the ground and erupt under enemies, deftly causing damage. As if their appearance alone wasn't enough to cause chaos and confusion, they are also armed with the infuriating Fuddle spell, allowing them to confuse all adventurers in a single cast. For some unknown reason they are deeply connected with the Bag o' laughs, always ready to come to their aid when called as an ally. It has been theorised that the bags themselves are made from fibres from the terrifying floating trees.
