Series lore and name
The Ursa majors are oversized, grey-hued counterparts to the Ursa minors. Befitting their name, they have immense strength.

Using Ursa major
Ursa major sits in the Beast family.
In DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: The Withered World you do not fight beside your monsters — you build the party and command it. Up to four monsters are active with four more in reserve, and synthesis is the main way to raise a keeper: combine two monsters from level 10 and the child inherits the parents' talents, with a Plus Value that can lift it past their rank.
